The AEW roster has been dominated by the Death Riders faction ever since the group’s inception last year. Another accolade has now been added to the group’s already stacked resumé. The group’s Claudio Castagnoli recently beat Grab Guerrero to win the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship in the Arena Mexico.
The Tony Khan led promotion started a working relationship with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) back in October 2023. Since then, stars from both promotions have made appearances on each other’s programming and won championships there.
At the recent Viernes Espectacular event hosted by CMLL, Claudio Castagnoli faced Gran Guerrero for the promotion’s World Heavyweight Championship. After an intense bout, he picked up the win by hitting Gran with a neutraliser. This marked the end of a 3 year long title reign as Gran had won the title back in November 2022.
It will be interesting to see if Claudio winning a World Championship will affect the power dynamics of Death Riders. Fans are excited to see the chaos unfold on the upcoming episode of AEW Collision.
Claudio Castagnoli vs Jon Moxley set for next week’s AEW Dynamite
AEW recently kicked off their annual Continental Classic tournament with few opening round matches. The bouts included some really great in-ring action featuring stars like Okada, Kyle Fletcher, Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and several others. Following his win over Mascara Dorada on this week’s Dynamite, Mox is set to face his Death Riders brother Claudio in the next round.
Both Moxley and Claudio are part of the Blue League in the Continental Classic tournament. The two men have already picked up victories in their first tournament bouts with Claudio beating Orange Cassidy on the latest edition of AEW Dynamite. In a recent backstage segment, Moxley delivered a message to Claudio ahead of their match.
“I don’t know any other way. This is just how I’m built. This is just how my team is built,” said Moxley.
Fans are excited to see the chaos unfold when the two Death Riders members compete against each other after nearly 8 years.
